January Scripture Writing Plan

I have a confession, I am not a “new year, new me” kind of person. I feel like life change shouldn’t be based on a changing calendar. If you want to start losing weight on November 22nd, start then. If you want to stop smoking on March 3rd, do it that day.

I know my outlook sounds bleak, but, believe it or not, I actually do like when a new year rolls around. Something about the impending date, January 1st, gives people an extra boost of hope and encourages us to reminisce on the past 12 months. Some even try new things because of it.

I, personally, take the first day of the year to reevaluate my walk with God. I prayerfully pick a word each year (a word God places on my heart to challenge, change or work on a specific area of life), fill out a Spiritual Growth Plan and consider new things I can do to strengthen my relationship with God.

If you’re looking to add something to your quiet time, a Scripture writing plan is a great tool to use and it only takes a few minutes each day. You just write out the verse(s) for that day and take a moment to meditate and pray over it.

Simple as that!

To kick off the new year, we’re going to dive deep into God’s promises. With each verse this month, I want to challenge you to take time to make it personal. If it includes the word “you”, try trading it out with your own name- instead of: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exodus 14:14), mine would say, “The Lord will fight for Kayla; she needs only to be still.” If you have another way of making it personal, do that instead.

Before anyone says it, I know that some of the promises in this month’s writing plan don’t personally apply to me or you, but God loves us so much, He didn’t have to give us these promises. He gave us more. He gave us the gift of relationship with Him and life everlasting.

My prayer for you is that God speaks to your heart as you continue to flourish and share in one of the many great gifts He has given you- His word.

I sincerely hope this year is a year of exponential growth and freedom from lifelong baggage. And, by kicking the year off remembering how valued you are will help your 2021 start off right!

-Kayla
