Holy Spirit, Come

March is here! I don’t know about you, but I am so excited to finally be in the home stretch to spring. Don’t get me wrong, I love winter, but I also appreciate the changing of seasons. Not to mention, it’s nice to know that it will start being warm enough out to start doing more outdoor activities. I, personally, feel much closer to God when I can get outside and be amongst His creations. It gets difficult, when you’re cooped up inside all day every day, to feel God’s presence. 

This month, we’re going to focus on feeling God more by focusing on the Holy Spirit. As most of us know, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit make up the Trinity. We talk a lot about Jesus and God specifically, but rarely mention the Spirit. 

When we think of God, we think of our Creator; our Father; our Healer. Some may even think of the angry Old Testament fellow that required a full on sacrifice to be spoken to. Or, maybe, you think of the gentle, loving God that wanted a relationship with us so bad that He sent His own Son as the sacrifice to end all sacrifices. 

When we think of Jesus, we think of our Savior; the Sacrificial Lamb; our Mediator. I, personally, like to remember Him as being the one who walked this earth, faced all of the temptation we face, and came out unscathed (Hebrews 4:15). Others may think of Him as the one that refused to stand for wrongdoings or as the only one to stand up for those who were being trampled on.

No matter what attributes you think of for the Father and the Son, you can probably use multiple words to describe them. When it comes to the Holy Spirit, however, it’s hard for some to come up with descriptive words. You might know that He is the part of the Trinity that helps us distinguish right from wrong. Or, you may have heard Romans 8:26 at some point— “[…] but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” While those are fantastic starting points, there is so much more to who the Holy Spirit is and what He does.

This month, we will learn more about the Spirit’s role in our lives; how to recognize the Holy Spirit in ourselves and those around us; and simple attributes and actions of His mentioned in the Bible. My hope for each one of you is that you will be able to stand firm in knowing each facet of God in the most intimate way. So, when you write each verse, meditate over it and ask God what He wants you to learn about Him through it. He wants you to know Him more, so just ask!

I look forward to hearing your stories this month as you dive into this with me. It’s definitely a little more in depth than most of the other plans I’ve written, but I believe God is going to do some big things through this!
